Wine & Food Challenge

March 11, 2018

It’s time for the greatest extended sporting event in the world, tourney time!

Since Eric Jensen of Booker Vineyard & Winery was a young boy in 1980 listening to Kenny Loggins sing “this is it” to the opening of Louisville vs UCLA he’s been addicted. Why Eric loves tourney time….

It is the only chance in sports for David to slay Goliath, and we are all as obsessed with upsets as we are with wine!

In Paso Robles, the wine community loves basketball, especially college and most importantly the NCAA Tournament. We have a pickup game with winemakers and industry people twice weekly, and every year when the tournament starts a group led by Scott Hawley of Law Estate Wines and myself watch the games every day at lunch with pints of Guinness and White Rhone blends. Our families, including the smallest of children and oldest of grandparents, rush to fill out multiple brackets for a chance at a prize.

The only problem is how to choose our teams? Yes, it’s easy to pick all the favorites, but that’s no fun and definitely not in the spirit of why they call it “MADNESS.”

This year, Paso Wine is taking away the guesswork and agonizing over whether or not Iona has any chance to upset Duke. The never ending problem of which 15 seed can upset a 2 seed will be solved in the most civilized of manners, food & wine.

How to Enter

Play the Paso Wine & Food Challenge and choose your teams based on what food is being paired with each team! Can a beautiful cedar-planked salmon and Pinot Noir outduel fried green tomatoes and Pinot Grigio? Hell, we don’t know but you may have better luck following your gut than just guessing!

The Road To Paso Robles will prove that picking teams by mascots and colors is nowhere near as fun as picking teams based on what food & wine pair best.

Pick well for a chance to win a trip to Paso Robles Wine Country and other great prizes.
