September 23, 2021

Planning the perfect trip to Paso Robles Wine Country can be a bit daunting if you’ve never been there or don’t know what to expect. Don’t worry though, we’ve got you covered!

While Paso Robles is known for its incredible vineyards and wineries, it’s so much more than that. From our amazing downtown and incredible restaurants to our golf courses and museums, Paso Robles is a place for the whole family to enjoy.

So let’s dive into how to plan the perfect trip to Paso Robles wine country!

How to Get to Paso Robles

The first thing you’ll want to figure out is how you’re going to travel to Paso Robles.

If you live on the west coast, and driving is an option, the 101 highway will get you right into the heart of downtown Paso Robles if you’re coming from the north or the south. If you’re traveling in from the east, then you’ll want to take highway 46 or 41 from Interstate 5 and the Valley. Driving from Los Angeles to Paso Robles will take you about 4 hours, with light traffic. Driving from Fresno or Bakersfield will cut that drive in a half, getting you into town in about 2 hours. And if you’re coming from San Francisco, you’re looking at about a 3-hour drive.

Keep these travel times in mind even if you’re planning on flying into the area, as not all flights will get you as close to Paso Robles as you might think.

The closest airport to Paso Robles is the San Luis Obispo’s airport, you will only have to drive about 30 minutes up highway 101 to reach Paso. You will also get to experience some stunning views on the way in. The Santa Barbara and Monterey airports will get you to within a 2-hour drive of Paso Robles, while, as we mentioned above, LAX and San Francisco will get you within 3-4 hours of the region.

In addition to visiting wineries for a tasting or a tour, several of the wineries in the area offer some incredible events throughout the year. We highly recommend visiting the events page on our website before booking a trip. This will give you an opportunity to see what sort of events are happening during the times you plan on visit and will allow you to better choose which places to go to. There are events all year round, but if you’re really looking for something special, we recommend coming during harvest season. The Harvest Wine Weekend occurs in October and includes a large main event, in addition to most wineries also host individual events throughout the course of the weekend.

If you’re planning on doing a wine tour and traveling between various wineries, it’s important to consider your transportation options. There are multiple transportation and tour companies on the Central Coast that offer packages that will take you from winery to winery, as well as individual options that will allow you to explore the area at your own pace.

Uber and Lyft are available in Paso Robles, as well as local taxi services like Fetch, which run regularly throughout Paso Robles. Thankfully, the various transportation companies in the area have stepped up to provide service to those that want to enjoy their wine while being responsible.
