Best Methods of Transportation Between Wineries in Paso Robles

One of the most important things to consider when planning the perfect trip to wine country is your transportation between the wineries.

Since you’ll likely be consuming wine during your visit, you’ll want to ensure that you are doing it safely and not putting yourself, and others, at risk by getting behind the wheel of a car. While some of the wineries in Paso Robles are within walking distance of each other in Downtown Paso Robles and Tin City for example, others are a little further out there.

Key Takeaways

  • Private drivers or wine tours are the top choice, managing schedules and storage while you relax between far apart wineries.
  • Uber and Lyft run in Paso Robles but rides can be scarce, and the Uber Wine option is discontinued.
  • The city bus covers downtown only and skips most wineries, running Monday to Saturday with fares starting at $.75.

With the availability of different rideshare services and other modes of transportation, there is no reason to ruin a wonderful day by getting behind the wheel when you shouldn’t. We’ve put together a list of the different types of transportation services available in Paso Robles to help keep you, and all the other visitors to Paso, safe and healthy.

Paso Robles Modes of Transportation

If you’re coming to Paso Robles to enjoy wine tasting at the incredible wineries in the region, then we highly recommend you plan transportation ahead before you start your day. There are a number of different transportation options in town, but depending on what you choose, they can book up which could leave you waiting at one place longer than expected. The best way to avoid that is to hire one of the many transportation or tour companies in town.

Private Transportation and Wine Tours

Because wineries and vineyards need lots of space to plant and grow grapes, this means that tasting rooms can sometimes be far apart. In most cases, you’re not going to be walking from tasting room to tasting room, so you’ll need a vehicle.

One of our favorite, and most recommended ways, to travel between wineries is with a private transportation company or as part of a wine tour.

By utilizing a private transportation company you will be able to hand off the responsibility of driving to someone else as you enjoy your day.

Most private transportation companies will ask for your itinerary which they will then use to determine where you need to be a certain time and what times are best to pick you up from each tasting room.

Since this is their job, they know how long it takes to get between each winery or tasting room, and any food spots you may want to swing through on the way to the next stop, and they will even have recommendations for you.

In addition to that, they’ll be able to hold on to any wine bottles you may have purchased at the various tasting rooms, or other personal items like jackets and snacks, so you don’t have to bring them with you into each stop.

Wine tours offer very similar experiences, but you are typically at the mercy of where the tour is going, and you will be accompanied by other patrons on the same tour.

If you want the best transportation experience from your visit to wine country, this would be our top choice. Browse local private transportation and wine tour companies to find the right fit for your group.

Rideshare Services – Uber and Lyft

As with most cities these days, Paso Robles has a couple of ride-sharing options. Uber and Lyft operate here and can be summoned from your phone when you’re ready to head to your next destination. That said, both can be less reliable than you might expect, there are fewer rideshare drivers in the area than in a larger city like LA or San Francisco, so wait times can run longer, especially during peak wine tasting hours when demand outpaces the number of drivers on the road.

Rideshare works well if you’re not on a tight schedule or you’re just exploring different parts of town, but if you have tasting room reservations to keep, keep an eye on the app and plan ahead so a longer-than-expected wait doesn’t make you late.

Uber Wine used to be an option in Paso Robles to book a full day of wine tasting, but as of currently, it has been discontinued here.

Taxi Service

Paso Robles does not offer a traditional yellow cab taxi service in town, but there are a few local private taxi services that run regularly throughout Paso Robles.

There are no taxi services in town that drive around looking to pick up fares like in bigger cities so you will have to plan ahead, and make reservations with these private cab companies if you want to use a taxi in the Paso Robles area.

Public Buses in Paso Robles

If you’re looking for public transit options for getting around Paso Robles, then there are a couple of bus routes throughout the city.

These routes may not help you very much if you’re trying to get to wineries and tasting rooms though, as the routes are restricted to the downtown/city area of Paso Robles, whereas a lot of the wineries are just outside of Downtown Paso Robles.

The bus can be a great option if you want to explore the city of Paso Robles though. The local bus service, Paso Express Routes A and B, is a fixed-route transit service operating along designated routes within the city. The bus runs Monday-Saturday, with no bus service on Sunday. Fares start at $.75 one-way for seniors, disabled, and youth under 12, while all others are $1.50 per rider.

Getting Around Paso Robles Safely

Wine tasting in Paso Robles is one of the best ways to experience what the region has to offer. Visiting multiple wineries, vineyards, and tasting rooms will give you a chance to experience a variety of different wines from a number of different winemakers.

With so many great private transportation companies, rideshare options, and taxi cabs available if you need them, there is no reason that anyone should be driving themselves to multiple places in a day (unless you have a designated driver in your group).

Keeping yourself, and others, safe while enjoying the beauty of Paso Robles will ensure that you have an unforgettable trip with as little stress as possible.
