Ep 36: New Hundred Pointers & Wine NFTs | Turtle Rock

October 28, 2021

Today we talk to the winemaker of Paso’s newest 100 Point Wine! Don Burns of Turtle Rock Vineyards has been used to receiving several 99 point wines, but recently was working his harvest when he found out his 2019 Turtle Rock G2 Syrah got rated a perfect 100 points by Jeb Dunnuck.

What’s the difference in how the phone rings when you score 99, opposed to 100? Do you raise the price after that? What’s next, and most importantly, CAN WE OPEN A BOTTLE?

We talk to Don about cutting his teeth as the Assistant Winemaker at Saxum, where wine took him, and how it brought him back from being a struggling Somm and server in Florida to a well-respected winemaker and producer highly in demand.

Don also explains how after a lot of research, has decided to take the Turtle Rock brand, and make wine NFTs with the product. If you’re just wrapping your head around NFTs, blockchain, and crypto talk, don’t worry, we all are. Forbes Magazine just wrote an interesting piece on Wine NFTs, and it was super interesting to listen to Don talk about how he is now incorporating this with the brand.

Original music, “Good Company”, performed by Moonshiner Collective.
