Tablas Creek Vineyard is a pioneer of California’s Rhone movement. In 1989, after a decades-long friendship, the Perrin family of Château de Beaucastel and the Haas family of Vineyard Brands bought an estate in the limestone-rich Adelaida District of Paso Robles. The site was chosen for its similarities to Chateauneuf-du-Pape, and vine material, including new clones of Roussanne, Grenache Blanc, Marsanne, Viognier, Picpoul Blanc, Mourvedre, Grenache, Syrah, and Counoise, was imported from Beaucastel at the project’s outset. Cuttings from these clones were made available to the wine community, and helped kick off the modern "Rhone Ranger" movement.
Tablas Creek’s vineyards are certified organic and Biodynamic and largely dry-farmed, limiting yields naturally. A mobile herd of sheep and alpacas builds healthy soils, while native yeast fermentation and aging in large neutral oak foudres produce Rhone-style varietal wines and blends of character and place.
Visit daily from 10:00AM to 5:00PM for a full tasting of estate Rhône-style wines in our tasting room. Complimentary daily tours of the grapevine nursery, organic vineyard, and cellar depart daily at 10:30AM and 2:00PM. Two upgraded tasting experiences -- the Seated Flight Tasting, where guests can sample multiple vintages of the estate's flagship wines, and the Collector's Tasting, which includes selections out of the winery's library -- are available by advance reservation.
