Hearst Ranch Winery’s San Simeon tasting room opened in 2009 inside of the historic Sebastian’s General Store Building circa 1852. Located across Highway 1 from Hearst Castle, Hearst Ranch Winery’s Sebastian’s General Store has a long and rich history in the area. Set along San Simeon Bay and steps from William Randolph Hearst State Beach, it’s fascinating to imagine a time when the building provided goods to whalers, merchants, local miners, and ranchers. Today it houses Hearst Ranch Winery’s tasting room, Sebastian’s Café and the San Simeon Post Office. Ranch horses roam in a fenced field nearby, and from the tasting room deck guests can catch peek-a-boo views of Hearst Castle perched atop the hill. Guests can enjoy wine tasting, a glass of wine or bottle from the wrap-around tasting bar inside or from the deck as they listen to the waves crash. Old wooden floors creak as guests explore the building. Historic artifacts adorn the walls, local goods and merchandise brim from the shelves. A selection of deli items, beer, and non-alcoholic beverages are also available for purchase.
