Ep 18: Vintage Paso: Zinfandel Weekend – Turley Wine Cellars | Opolo Vineyards

March 18, 2021

About to embark on the first of the three big weekends in Paso Wine Country, Vintage Paso Zinfandel Weekend. Always the third weekend in March, we celebrate the history of Paso and its heritage varietal, Zinfandel. While there are many ‘Zin-Houses’ in Paso wine country, there are also many wines that don’t make a zin, and these wineries also have special reasons for you to visit as well.

This is a weekend where you will find special tastings, pairings, wineries barrel sampling, perhaps breaking out and sharing library bottles, case specials, activities, special experiences and more. From Sip n Paint with your pet, to Vineyard Excursions, there’s something for everyone, and it’s a fantastic weekend to visit Paso!

We talk to two wineries who both celebrate the history as well as Zinfandel, Turley & Opolo. Both located on Paso’s westside, both these brands are known for their Zin far beyond the boundaries of Paso Robles.

First, we talk to WWTY Associate Producer Jennifer Bravo about the significance of this weekend, and she also breaks some Paso Wine news about our next big event in May, Wine Fest! Later we meet up in the cellar of Turley and hang with winemaker Karl Wicka and learn how Turley has mastered high end and old vine Zinfandel, and its unique role in Paso’s pioneering days.

Later we join the winemaking team at Opolo. Their breath taking views, almost sinful good times, along with their wine always make for an unforgettable and one of a kind Paso experience, that makes you come back again and again. Adam is joined by James Schreiner, Chris Rougeot, and Robert Nadeau.
