AboutThe History
Gary Eberle founded Eberle Winery in 1979, producing his first vintage of Cabernet Sauvignon and helping establish Paso Robles as a world-class wine region. Today, Eberle is among the most award-winning wineries in the United States, consistently ranking among the nation’s top producers of gold medal wines.
Widely known as the Pioneer and “Godfather” of Paso Robles, Gary played a leading role in creating the Paso Robles American Viticultural Area (AVA). He was the first in the country to produce a 100% varietal Syrah — a milestone that helped shape the region’s reputation for Rhône and Bordeaux-style wines.
The Boar
The German name “Eberle” translates to “small boar.” A bronze boar greets guests at the tasting room — the 93rd replica of the famed Porcellino cast in 1620. Rubbing the boar’s nose and tossing a coin into the fountain is said to bring good luck, with all proceeds supporting local children’s charities.
The Winery
Guests enjoy a variety of tasting experiences, from seated vineyard tastings to elevated private appointments, all paired with a guided tour through more than 16,000 square feet of underground wine caves carved into the hillside — a signature feature of the Eberle experience.
