Ep 1: Breathing New Life Into Old History – J Dusi Wines | Peachy Canyon Winery

June 19, 2020

On the first episode of Where Wine Takes You – A Paso Wine Podcast, our host Adam Montiel catches up with two winemakers breathing new life into old Paso Robles Wine history.

Janell Dusi grew in the vineyards, both figuratively and literally. Janell comes from a multi-generation of grape farmers, and their head-trained Zinfandel has become a heritage piece of Paso Wine history. While most 16-year-olds were saving up money for their first car, Janell was saving up for her first new French oak barrel. It’s in this gal’s blood. She is bright, kind, and if you visit her tasting room on the west side of Highway 46, it’s not uncommon to see her behind the wheel of a tractor or forklift. Janell is the real deal.

Also in this first episode, we meet Josh Beckett of Peachy Canyon Winery. Josh and his brother Jake were recently given the reigns of their family winery that has been a staple in Paso wine country since the early 1980s. Peachy Canyon has also long been a Zin house (a winery that has long specialized in making Zinfandel), but with fresh new blood, comes fresh new ideas. Josh explains that although Peachy Canyon has celebrated brand recognition and acclaim all over the country, he and his brother are really interested in dialing in their vineyards and wines, and really hone in on the next chapter of Peachy Canyon.

Both Janell and Josh speak to their ideas and thoughts about reopening, and what’s on the horizon for both brands as they get into Summer, and beyond.
