May 23, 2024 | L’Aventure

May 23, 2024 | Harmony Cellars

Harmony Cellars was one of the first 20 wineries established in the Paso Robles AVA. Founded in 1989 by Chuck and Kim Mulligan, the winery has grown from a 2,000-case micro winery to a 7,500-case boutique production facility. The winery and tasting room are located in the rolling hills off HWY 1 in Northern San Luis Obispo County. Though Harmony Cellars sits amid plenty of open land, due to a high magnesium content in the soil none of it is suitable for vineyards. But that suits Winemaker Chuck Mulligan just fine. Because Harmony isn’t tied to an estate vineyard, he is able to offer a diverse selection of wines, all of which are produced and bottled in Harmony. Harmony wines are made with fruit selected from vineyards along the Central Coast from Monterey to Santa Margarita.

The internship involves hands on experience in all aspects of cellar operations. General tasks include but are not limited to:
-Clean and sanitization of all areas (facility and equipment)
-General cleanup and organization
-Equipment set-up, operation and maintenance
-Assist with processing fruit, grape sorting and operating presses
-Barrel cleaning, filling, racking and topping
-Preparation of samples
-Add amendments to juice and wine
-Perform routine pump-overs, punch-downs and additions
-Uphold all SOPs for equipment operations and sanitary practices
-Observe safe cellar practices
-Frequent standing, walking, climbing up/down stairs, ladder use and heavy lifting
-Familiarity with wine analysis a big plus

Qualifications
-20 years of age or older
-Ability to speak, read and write English
-Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs. and stand for long periods of time
-Willingness to work when needed, including weekends/holidays

-Team oriented with strong social skills
-Forklift experience preferred
